Mr. Joseph "Joe Dirt" Williams, PSM
The Epitome of Innovation, Family Man, Veteran
Mr. Joseph Williams, widely known as "Joe Dirt," was born in Jacksonville, FL, in 1980. His family relocated to St. Augustine, FL, in 1992, where his entrepreneurial and service journey began. After graduating from Bible Baptist High School, Joe founded Joe Dirt Inc. Trucking in 2005. In 2007, he co-founded Indianhead Exploration with Col. Roy H. Hinman II, launching a local yard waste recycling initiative that has served the St. Augustine community for over 17 years. Indianhead also acts as a base for FEMA emergency workers, assisting with waste disposal and debris management after natural disasters.
In 2001, Joe felt a higher calling to serve his country and enlisted in the military. His service experience imparted invaluable lessons that he continues to apply in both his professional and personal life. After retiring from the National Guard in 2008, he met Lindsay, a fellow St. Augustine native. The couple married in 2014 and share a daughter, Olivia, affectionately known as "Livy Loves Dirt."
In 2015, Joe and Lindsay pursued certifications in Project Safety Management (PSM) from the prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology. With over 20 years of experience, Joe has built a reputation as a leading safety professional, overseeing workplace safety protocols across multiple industries. His expertise in hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety compliance ensures that every project he manages upholds the highest safety standards.
Outside of work, Joe enjoys scuba diving, giving back to his community, and spending time with his family. He serves on the board of Horse Play Therapy, an organization that provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy to children through horseback riding, or hippotherapy. Both Joe and Lindsay volunteer at the St. Augustine Horse Play Therapy Center, making a meaningful impact in their local community.
In 2018, driven by his passion for sustainability, Joe asked himself, "What else can I do with all this wood waste I'm recycling?" This question sparked the creation of a new recycling stream in collaboration with Col. Hinman and Mr. Blake Merrill, converting biosolids and bulking agents into a rich compost. Through Indianhead, Joe’s composting project aims to create a simple agricultural product that anyone can use while helping Northeast Florida tackle its waste management challenges. Now, six years later, Joe proudly celebrates significant progress toward these goals.
In addition to his composting efforts, Joe has pioneered a foolproof terraseeding method that is so fast and effective to make the green grass grow. Joe's method will provide you with lush greenery in no time, without chemical fertilizers. Joe excels in problem-solving and project management, offering top-tier logistics and delivery services at competitive rates. His innovative approach to waste management and composting has made him a local leader in St. Augustine, where he remains dedicated to finding sustainable solutions to society’s growing waste issues.
Joe is one of the few pioneers in Florida’s composting frontier, transforming "waste" into something remarkable. He and his team are committed to educating the public about recycling, biosolids, composting, simplifying the science, and addressing the “ick” factor often associated with the process. Through research, pilot projects, and community engagement, Joe aims to demystify the composting process and inspire others to embrace this innovative solution for waste management.
